Gilbert Water Ranch

The group arrived at the usual 8:00 A.M. starting time despite the rush hour traffic.
The day started out cool but warmed up nicely and there was no wind.

The ponds had numerous ducks and waders. Birds were numerous as well in the vegetation along the trails. We also checked a couple of areas where the American Redstart had been seen but no luck.

All told the group sighted a total of 55 birds. They were: Pied-billed Grebe, Eared Grebe, Neotropic Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Green Heron, Blackcrowned Night Heron, Canada Goose, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Mallard, Cinnamon  Teal, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Turkey Vulture, American Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Prairie Falcon, Gambel’s Quail, American Coot, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Western Sandpiper, Longbilled Dowitcher, Wilson’s Snipe, Rock Pigeon, Mourning Dove, Peach-faced Lovebird, Anna’s Hummingbird, Costa’s Hummingbird, Gila Woodpecker, Black Phoebe, Say’s Phoebe, Verdin, Cactus Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Northern Mockingbird, Curve-billed Thrasher, European Starling, American Pipit, Orangecrowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler, Abert’s Towhee, Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Great-tailed Grackle, House Finch, Lesser Goldfinch, House Sparrow.
