Hassayampa River Preserve

We had a beautiful clear morning with very little wind as we walked the trails of Hassayampa River Preserve.

The 14 participants were John Arnett (leader), Dan Bohlmann, Bob Cirillo, Joe Ford, Janet and Don Hegenderfer, Carole Anne Kinney, Bruce Melanson, Liz and Stew Morris, Chuck and Loretta Richards, Sam Stearman, and George Wall.

The 31 birds observed or heard were the Hooded Merganser (1 male, 2 female), Mallard, Green-winged Teal, American Coot, Red-tailed hawk (along Hwy. 60, outside the preserve), Prairie Falcon, American Kestrel, Gila Woodpecker, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Northern (red-shafted) Flicker, Costa’s Hummingbird (1), Anna’s Hummingbird, Mourning Dove, Black Phoebe, Verdin (8), Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Marsh Wren (h), Bewick’s Wren, House Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Western Bluebird, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Abert’s Towhee, Spotted Towhee, Green-tailed Towhee, Song Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, White-crowned Sparrow, Lesser Goldfinch, European Starling.
