  Montezuma Well

Thirteen birders joined Eleanor Campbell, the leader, on the Sonoran Audbon Society’s birding trip to Montezuma’s Well on Saturday, January 11, 2003. They were Judith Burke, Marshall Esty, Jeanne Kirsch, Vera Markham, Chuck and Lorretta Richards, Larry and Audrey Schander, Donna Smith, Helen Jean Story, George and Maria Wall and Daniella Yellan.

This was a good mixture of birders from both the Sonoran Audubon Society and Birders’ Anonymous.

Birds seen were Gadwall, Mallard, American Widgeon, Northern Shoveler, Ring-nedked Duck, Red-tailed Hawk, Gila Woodpecker, Northern Flicker (red-shafted), Black Phoebe, Common Raven, Loggerhead Shrike, Western Bluebird, Townsend’s Solitaire, Hermit Thrush, Rock Wren, House Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Lesser Goldfinch, Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow and Western Meadowlark.

After leaving this beautiful spot, the group went to the Fish Hatchery at Page Springs. The birds seen there were Mallard, American Widgeon, Northern Shoveler, Ring-necked Duck, Great Blue Heron, Gambel’s Quail, Townsend’s Solitaire, American Robin, Verdin, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Bridled Titmouse, House Finch, Dark-eyed Junco “Oregon”, Spotted Towhee, Abert’s Towhee, and Northern Cardinal.
