Sixteen birders left the Valley for the cool pines of Stoneman Lake Wednesday, June 10th. The lake still has some water and the Coots, Mallards and about 1000 Violet-green Swallows were taking advantage of it. A walk around the lake turned up several pairs of Plumbeous Vireos and Western Wood Pewees. Two young House Wrens with stubby tails had us stumped for a while until Mom showed up. At Bill Back Pond we saw our first Red-faced Warbler and a Western Tanager gave up nice photo ops. A couple of Abert's Squirrels added to the entertainment. Several of us stopped at Montezuma's Well to check out the Picnic Area for the Yellow-green Vireo reported there, but of course he left 5min. ago. We did see a beautiful Blue Grosbeak which made up for our loss.
